Media Mill 1.0.0
August 9, 2026. First public release. Free. Requires an Apple-silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later.
Media Mill saves video and audio into a Library of ordinary files and does
the work on your Mac: transcription, documents, subtitles and translation,
search, and new copies of the media itself.
What you can do
- Save a link or add a file. Paste a link from the web,
drop in local video or audio, use Quick Add in the menu bar, or save the
page you are viewing with the Safari extension included in the app. Each
item keeps its source media and everything made from it in one folder you
can open in Finder.
- Transcribe on this Mac. Transcription runs locally and
produces a timed transcript plus a readable markdown file.
- Create documents. Overviews, study guides, and more,
written by AI actions whose prompts you can read, edit, or write yourself.
AI can also tag and title items for you.
- Make new media. Subtitled and translated copies,
cleaned-up audio, highlight cuts, audiograms, and format conversions.
- Chain it into workflows. 10 starter workflows cover
transcript and overview, subtitles, translation, study guides, highlights,
and podcast production. Every workflow is editable, and you can build your
own from any mix of actions.
- Stay in control of runs. Activity follows every run,
and a Review step can show you an output before the rest of a workflow
continues.
- Search the whole Library. Find moments by meaning or
by exact words, across every transcript and document.
- Use local AI at your size. Setup recommends an AI
model tier that fits this Mac's memory. Nothing downloads until you start
it.
- Connect AI assistants. Claude Desktop, Codex, and
other local assistants can search the Library, read transcripts, and start
work, each behind its own permission switch in settings. A command-line
interface drives the same core from scripts.
Privacy
Media analysis and AI processing stay on this Mac. Media Mill uses the
network to fetch links you add and to download engines or models when
requested. Public builds also check the signed Media Mill update feed and
download an app update when you choose Install. No account, no telemetry.
Updates
Media Mill checks its signed update feed and shows new versions in
Activity. Install happens when you choose.
